Fuenlabrada city council is designing an innovative action aiming at attending two key challenges that the city centre is facing. Firstly, elderly people is growing exponentially with special needs for care services, feeling unwanted loneliness. Second, young population is being expulsed to the periphery since the lack of affordable housing solutions and the low quality of dwellings. The solution is being built, aims at recovering an empty old building (former School) to provide a permanent home for elderly, informal space with access to care settings. Current housing owned by elderly will be used by young people at a lower rental price. This project represents an experiment of a new housing model facing different challenges regarding regulation, new spaces for elderly, attractions mechanisms for young people and revitalization of city centres.
We are looking for cities according to the following criteria:
•Belonging to Age Friendly Cities in Europe Network
•Cities that participated at the EU Youth Capital
•Municipalities facing empty city centres
•Cities located in less developed reion and transition regions according to NUTs classification.
•Medium, small and big cities representation hopefully
