City/Municipality of Vicenza is a local public authority. Vicenza is a city in northeastern Italy, in the Veneto region. Vicenza has been enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994 and has been part of the Covenant of Mayors network since 2011 and of the Mayors Adapt network from October 2014 (adoption of SECAP in the 2021). With a total area of about 80 km2 and a resident population of 111.005 inhabitants (Dec. 2021), Vicenza is in fact a compact city, from the old town to the outskirts, enclosed in a dense belt especially in north, east and west quadrants. It is located in a diversified territory, rich of urban as well as productive excellence, involved in demanding territorial dynamics that invest the entire area of Italy Northeast.
Municipality promotes and coordinates local initiatives aimed to an awareness of the population on issues about the importance of good environment policies and actions aimed to achieve environmental sustainability. In particular, the Municipality takes care on every issue able to protect public health, carrying out the tasks assigned by the law on waste, local hygiene, pollution. The historical center of Vicenza has been closed to traffic since 1996 and freight logistic in the central area is exclusively managed through Electric Vehicles (Vicenza Eco-Logistic Center initiative β VELoCe, inhouse company owned by the Municipality and all trade unions).
Over the last years, the City has undertaken a series of actions going towards the development of policies of innovation, also thanks to the consolidated capacity on implementing and managing EU project activities (by EU projects office). Up till now it has managed 23 EU projects, also as lead partner, and itβs ERDF Urban Authority (for the implementation of the SUD-sustainable urban development strategy 2014-2020 and 2021-2027) for a grant total amount of 38 million euro (https://www.comune.vicenza.it/uffici/cms/politichecomunitarie.php/progetti_europei).
