Physical Transformation of a building and the area around it.
The activities will focus on the "Mladost" Sports Hall transforming it from a dilapidated building into a modern sports and wellness center, whose spaces and organized activities will promote the inclusion of people from different vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, migrants, etc.
The renovation process will transform the building into a nearly zero-energy building and provide it with a fully functional digital twin for further energy savings. It will also modernize the interior, endowing it with new functionality-making it an innovative, inclusive and accessible community center for a holistic nature-oriented way of life.Â
The surrounding area will be transformed into therapeutic gardens that allow urban farming focused on local permaculture, horticulture therapy, and where the inclusion of different vulnerable groups will be pursued once again. The area north of the building will include herbal and sensory gardens, and will include a linear children’s playground, done with NBS solutions and allowing for an immersive and exploratory experience. Finally, A green wall will surround the area in order to protect it from the traffic noise and pollution.
Innovative aspect
The innovation lies in using the physical transformation of the building and the space around it as a vehicle for social transformation and innovation.
It will co-create a mechanism for greater inclusion of vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and the disabled, who often live on the margins of society. The activities aim to bring seniors in direct contact with youth, especially disadvantaged youth, in gardening and other activities, allowing them to pass on local traditions and lore in a natural way. Additionally, the horticulture therapy can be used to further the socialization of marginalized groups.
